About This Seminar
Twenty-five centuries ago, Plato wrote "The Republic". In Book VII, he introduced a dialogue between Socrates and his elder brother Glaucon on the subject of knowledge. To illustrate his point, he used an allegory that has since become famous: the Cave. It must be acknowledged that, far from having learned from this allegory, we are sinking ever deeper into this cave. The wall onto which shadows were projected has been replaced by screens. The opinion formed by interpreting the shadows has been replaced by the illusion of knowledge produced by the sharing of information via screens.
This presentation aims to highlight the importance of doubt and critical thinking in a world where our relationship with reality is more mediated and subject to manipulation than ever before.
